Joan P. Kennedy

President, HMC and Senior Vice President, WellPoint, Inc.

Joan Kennedy is responsible for leading the operations and performance of HMC. With 13 years of experience in disease management and managed care, she is a nationally recognized leader in integrated care management and has a demonstrated record of improving member health and return on investment through innovative strategies that address the full continuum of care.

Before joining HMC in 2006, Joan served as vice president of health services at Empire BlueCross BlueShield, where she was a member of the health plan’s executive team and served as architect of 360° Health – an innovative health services strategy and industry best-practice in population-based health care management.

Prior to joining Empire BlueCross BlueShield, Joan served as vice president of product development and operations for CorSolutions, a provider of disease management services. Her career also includes service with Oxford Health Plans, where she directed the company’s disease management and behavioral health programs.

A founding member of the Disease Management Association of America (DMAA), Joan was recognized in 2004 by Managed Healthcare Executive magazine as one of the top leaders in disease management.

Joan earned her bachelor’s degree in international relations from Bates College, and her master’s degree in business administration from the American Graduate School of International Management.
